Biographical Profile


Laurie Henry is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Connecticut. She also works as a research assistant for the New Literacies Research Team and is involved with several federally funded grant projects. She earned a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2000 from the University of Connecticut.

Laurie is a former middle school teacher in Connecticut with certification in Special Education, Elementary Education, Middle School Language Arts, and Middle School Mathematics. Laurie enjoys providing professional development to educators in the area of technology integration and the new literacies of the Internet.

Laurie's research interests focus on the reading strategies and comprehension issues that occur when reading on the Internet, especially during information searching. She serves as a member of the Advisory Board for the ReadWriteThink educational resource site. Laurie has authored many publications and has engaged in numerous conference presentations including an invited session as a "Featured Technology Speaker" at the 2005 annual convention of the International Reading Association.
